Walk - Micheldever Woods

On a sunny day B and I suddenly decided to set out for a walk and Micheldever woods it was. Having read somewhere that this place is quite well-known for it's magnificent display of blue bells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) in the Hampshire region, I was not quite sure if it was the best time to go. Equipped with just our direction senses we headed from Micheldever station. The other option was to start from Winchester. Since we wanted to avoid the city limits and spend more time within the woods we chose the former.

The walk took us through the fields, small trails and some characteristic cottages to start with. The chirping birds welcomed us as we kept our pace.

Further couple of miles into the woods we could see the presence of blue bells, but wasn't as dense as I had expected.

On the whole it was an exciting and refreshing day-out into the fresh air and to a quiet zone. After walking for about ten miles with the contention of having burnt the calories accumulated over the week, we headed back to the Micheldever through an alternate route which took us via somebody's farm!

For those who are looking forward for weekend activities in Hampshire, I would say Micheldever makes a perfect destination for a good walk. The forestry commission of England's website has more details on how to get there, the activities permiited and about the wildlife found in the region. If you are lucky to have a good sunlight and head towards the right direction you may end up seeing a spectacular display of blue bells as well!. With spring around the corner, this is one of the places higly recommended for walks/photography/cycling.

Note: It seems the best place to shoot the blue bells is the area on the farther end of the car park where not many people venture and it gets spellbinding at about hundred metres from M3, for those magical experience of photography!
